- There was once a monastery on the Island of Inish Mor. There was a great big graveyard there. All the people around Purth used to bury their dead there They used to put the corpse on a flag which was there along the shore. The flag used to sail out to their Island with the corpse. When the corpse was buried it used to sail back to the shore.
Once a boy and a girl went out to sail on it. The boy had bad intentions in his head. When they were out a bit the flag split. The half that the boy was on sank, and he was drowned. The other half with the girl on it came back to the shore and she was saved. That half was put for window stools in a Landlords house near there.Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
