- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)a very nice food when buttered warm. Boxty Bread locally known as Rasp is made by rasping raw peeled potatoes. The water is then squeezed off from the potatoes with a cloth, flour and new milk are then added. It is then made into small thin cakes and baked on the griddle. Pancakes are made of flour and milk and bread soda and baked on the pan.
Long ago all the bread was baked every third day except oaten meal bread which was baked every week. Before baking the bread a deep cross was made to help the cake to bake. The night before Whit sunday a great lot of pancakes were baked for the occassion and nothing else was eaten for the tea. Nowadays the bread is baked in an oven, in former times it was baked on the griddle.
