- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Long ago people used to go on pilgrimages to Saint Hugh's Holy Well. Each person used to bring a small token with him. There was a hawthorn bush growing over the wall, and the people would hang their tokens on it. There was a Protestant man named Newburn living near the well. He wanted to do away with the tokens so he set fire to the tree. He brought out his armchair and sat watching them burning. While he was still watching them burning he died suddenly.
It is said that before Saint Hugh was born it was foretold that if he was born on Thursday he would be a Doctor and if he was born on Friday he would be a Saint. So he was not born until Friday and he was a Saint.
