The wild birds of this district that migrate are the wild duck, wild goose, water hen, cuckoo corn-crake, swallow and those that stay here always are the crow, curlew, mag-pie, black-bird, thrush, sparrow, snipe, robin, crane, jay, phesant and the wren.
The wild duck and wild goose do not lay here. The water hen lays in a tuft of sedge, the cuckoo lays her eggs in another bird's nest. The corn-crake builds her nest in a meadow. The phesant builds in a hole in the ground. She lays one clutch and covers it grass and rots that clutch and so on until the hole is filled.
