  1. Local Cures.
Several people in Knockaville district have cures and these cures have been in the same family for generations. When a person who has a cure gets old he usually leaves the cure to his son or daughter and the son or daughter never practises the cure while the parent lives.
The Cure of Burns or Scalds.
Mrs. Costello who lives very near the school has the cure of the burn. She gathers marsh-mallow boils it and makes an ointment by mixing the herb with unsalted butter and applies it the burn.
Another local cure for a burn is:- a smoothing iron is put in the fire and when it is red it is taken out and licked with the tongue and then the person who licks the iron licks the burn or scald and it is cured in a very short time.
Another cure is made by mixing carron oil and lime-water. Ordinary lime is put to steep and then the water is strained and mixed with the oil. The mixture is bottled and when required is applied to the affected part with a feather.
