- Long ago fish were not caught like now. There was no fishing rods then and yet people caught plenty of fish.
They used to get a long stick and put a snare on the end of it. When they saw a fish they hunted him up and down the river until he lay in hiding under a week then they they quietly put the snare in on his head and then tightened it around him and pulled him safely out.
Other times they stroked him also the belly and tickled him and by degrees got the snare across his head and pulled him out. - Fish such as trout, salmon and pike were caught by stabbing them with a fork or pike or by means of a large hook on the top of a stick.
- Nets used to be made and pulled along the river bank to catch the fish.
