    Fairy Forts
night he tried to put in calves and they would not go and then he tried to put in goats and they would not go and he pushed them in. The next morning he went out and the goats were dead. So he had to put back all the scraws again on the fort.
About fifty or sixty years ago a young man named Thomas Gavigan of Brownstown, Delvin heard a child as he thought crying on a fort near his home. He thought it was Thomas Gogarty the son of a neighbour who had gone astray and went to bring him home. But when he got to that fort called Gogarty's to his surprise he heard it on another fort called Gavicans. He thought he had gone from one fort to another while he had been going from his own home. So he went to the fort in another field. He began to get suspicious but still being a man that knew no fear followed on to where heard the cry on Donelan's fort. But when he arrived to his great surprise it was still father away. But now he came to the conclusion that no child could go so far in so short a time and so he returned to his home and there was a noggin of milk on the table
