- On an eminence over-looking the shores of Lake Sheelan stands the grey old ruins of Ross Castle. It once belonged to the O'Reillys of Cavan who have no descendants. It is said it was built in the sixteenth century. Later on it was destroyed by Cromwell. Then it was repaired by a man named Nugent who lived in it for some time. When strangers come to Lake Sheelan they always to to see Ross Castle.
