- Rathmay is the townland wher I live. It got its name from its forts. There were nearly twenty forts in the townland which are now levelled out to three. There was a man in the district who said that Rath Meiobe is the Irish for Rathmay. Rath means fort and Meiobe a queen who ruled over Connaught. There is a fairies fort on our land with many lone bushes on it. There is a trench about fifteen feet deep all around it. There is also a great big wood a lough or river wher we get some nice fish in Sumer.
