- A Great SwimmerTold by Edward Cullen aged 54 years, Clontiduffy, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan.Some years ago there lived a swimmer in Lake-view named Jack Sheridian. He often swam Lough Sheelan from the boat house to Carrick a distance of seven miles in a few hours.One evening himself, a child and an oarsman went out on the lake in a boat. When he had gone a certain distance he took hold of the child and threw him out into the lake then he jumped quickly in after him. He returned carrying the child on his back and kept going in and out under the boat with the child on his back.
