  1. St Stephen's day is celebrated with great merriment and sport suitable for the occasion. On this particular day most of the men and sometimes women join together and disguised in such a way as to be unrecognisable. They proceed from house to house dancing and singing and making sport of every description so as to amuse the occupants and for this they get money no matter how small.
    When the days sport is over the cashier minds the money and perhaps in a week or so they have a dance or a spree with it and it is mostly beer they buy.
    In times gone bye the old wren boys used to rob the younger boys of their spoil which was a very unjust thing to do. These young wren boys used to carry the poor little wren bird on a big long stick but that is punishable the present day.
