- Candle and soap making.There were two candle and soap makers in the town of Drogheda. One was a Mr Byrne and the other a Mr McQuillan. They lived over a hundred years ago. Some of Mr McQuillans family still live in Drogheda and I think they still carry on the old trade. They both lived in West Street. The Mr Byrne was Dr Byrnes father but none of the family carry on that business now.
The only spinner I ever heard of around here was an old woman named Mrs Grogan who died about five years ago at the age of ninety. She used to go around the fields and collect the bits of wool from the sheeps back.
