In the county of Meath there was a poor old man who had a crutch and he used to go to houses looking for help.
The people took pity on him on accord of being lame and they used to take turns in keeping him a few nights.
He was getting very old and one night he told them he was dying.
They said he was dreaming so he said nothing for a couple of weeks.
Till one night they went in to him and he said "When I die bury the old crutch with me that helped me to get a bit to eat".
So they sent for the doctor and he said "Please watch him for he will die any time".
So when he died they put him into the coffin and when they went to put in the crutch it would not fit.
So they sawed a bit off it and when they did that all the gold fell out of it.
They sent for the priest and when he came they told him their story.
The priest said "Keep it boys for a misers money was never any good". So that was the end of the old misers money.
