- Wakes are held to show that the person is dead. We say the rosary. The five candles are lighted and we leave them on a table with a saucer full of snuff. One person takes the saucer and goes around with the snuff to the people. When the people take a pinch of snuff they say "The Lord have mercy on the dead". The people get tea ready and give it around. Then, after the tea, porter is given out to the men.
