- There is a fort near my house in Tubberniddain Lissycasey and it is said that once a chest of gold was hidden under a huge flag in the inner circle. It is said that it was hidden by a Danish chief as he was leaving Ireland. He made one of his soldiers promise him that he would guard the treasure until the end of time. In order that he might do that he slew him with his sword and buried him with the treasure. Since then it has been guarded by his ghost.
One night three men said that they would dig for the gold. They got spades and shovels and a lantern and proceeded to the place. They began to dig and finally reached the stone.
They were about to remove the flag when suddenly they heard great noises and their lanterns were quenched and they fled in terror.- Bailitheoir
