Ar an leathanach seo

  1. There are at present 4 forges in the parish, those of Pat Frawley, Clonderlaw; Pat Torpey of Knock; Pat Golden, Benvoran, and Frank Waters of Tullyerine.
Pat Torpey's forge is in the village of Knock, Pat Golden's at "The Cross" in Benvoran, Frank Waters' (built within the past few months) on the side of the main Ennis-Kilrush road, and Pat Frawleys near the cross road leading from Clonderlaw to the "Six Crosses" at Derrynalicka.
Pat Golden learned the trade from his father, who learned it from Tom Doyle, whose disused forge still stands at Drumdigus. Frank Waters' father was a cooper until the "fresh-butter" trade obviated the use of firkins.
Pat Golden's forge is covered with felt, the others are thatched. They have one fireplace each. The bellows are made of leather and blown by hand; not made locally.
Work done: shoeing horses and asses
