- There is a holy well in Tubrid about two miles from here called after St Kieran the patron saint of this parish. We keep his feast-day on Nov. 10th. Long ago people used to do rounds at the well which consisted in going around the well ten times saying a Rosary. It is not longer kept as a holy well and the people of the district use the water for domestic purposes. There is another Holy Well in Shanbally supposed to be connected with St Malachy. People do rounds at this well on Easter Sunday. The most noted of the Holy Wells in this district is St. Fanaghan's well near Mitchelstown. People from this place go there to do the rounds on Nov 25th. Several people are supposed to have been cured there. It is said that anyone who sees a trout in the well which appears from time to time is sure to be cured. This well is supposed to have removed from its former position because a woman washed clothes in it.
