- In the village of Tubrid there is the ruin of a church of the Penal Days. Dr Geoffrey Keating was curate in this parish and it is in this little church he is supposed to have preache the sermon that brought him under the notice of the Authorities and caused him to fly to the Glen of Aherlow when he wrote his famous work "Forus Feas as Eirinn." On a little staff over the door of the church it is stated that his body is interred with that of L Eugene ODuffy in the adjoining churchyard though the exact place acannot be traced. The famous Dr. Brennon is without doubt buried here also. Dr. Brennan is supposed to have visited Rahill Manor on several occasions and even to have ordained priests there. The Manor, now in ruins, was owned by a branch of the Battle family who kept the faith in the days of persecution of Ireland churchyard there are several protestants buried notably the Baron of Burgess who gave the name Beer Burgen to a townland in the vicinity of Tubrid and their house is still to be seen and is known as Bergen Mansion.
