- The Local fairs are held in Nenagh and in the Silvermines. Buyers never transact business in the country at crossroads or at farmers' houses.
There are no local traditions of fairs held on hilltops or near castles. In Nenagh and Silvermines the fairs are held on the streets.
Toll is paid on cattle sold. Two pennies is paid for each beast to the toll collector. Luck-money is given on cattle sold. It is called the luck penny. When a bargain has been made the parties concerned show their agreement by striking hands or by spitting on the palm of the hand.
Animals are marked with raddle when sold. Some people cut out the first letter of their names. When a horse is sold the rope is given with him. In Nenagh the fairs are held on the first Monday of every month. Special fairs are held for the sale of sheep and bonhams.
