- Laurence Dillon the local poet of this district was born in the townland of Derry about three hundred yards fro the village of Rathcabbin. He was born in the year seventeen hundred and sixty eight about one hundred and seventy years ago. The house in which Laurence Dillon was born was later turned into a forge. His father's name was Larry Dillon but his mother's name is not known.. He had one brother by the name of John Dillon. The poet lived with his father in his early boyhood and he then took up his abode at he Pike of Rathcabbin and had a farm of about two acres. Thee trade that Laurence Dillon followed was that of making cider. He went to a teacher by the name of Peter Madden. He was not very brilliant at school. He was small in height and his dress was a cut-away-coat and knee breeches. He died in the year(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
