There is a high hill on which there is the ruins of a fort from which Lisballyard got it's name.Culleen means the little wood. There was a wood there long ago. There are a lot of trees to be seen there yet. Derrylahan which means the wide oak got it's name from an oak wood which existed there long ago. There is a part of this wood existing at the present day. Sharragh means a young foal. his name was handed down to us from the Irish. Roden means the little road. Clongowna means the "calf's meadow". Shraduff means the "black steel". Next to this is Ballyduff which means the "black town". There are many other place-names, but they have not come down from the Irish.
