  2. In the penal times both people and priests suffered much agony. The priests were often bare-footed going out in the snow and perhaps sometimes were shot dead. They used take a big sheet of canvas and put big sticks under it to keep away the cold wind. The soldiers used hide in the ditches and when the priests were preaching to the people they used come out and kill the priests.
There is a rock called Maddigan's rock in Lismaloughlin Castlemartyr and mass was often said on this rock. It is said that robins now build there, and for that reason it is called "Robin's Rock". It is also said that there was a blessed well there one time and an old priest who lived at Youghal used come up there to pray at certain times of the year.
