- We have no churn at home but I heard tell of one. This churn was round and was about three feet in height. It was about ten inches wide at the top and about a foot and a half at the bottom. The various parts are, the body, the lid, the beater, and the stand.
The butter is made twice a week in Summer and once a week in winter.
The labouring man does the churning. If a stranger comes in during churning he should help at the work because if he did not he would take all the butter away. The churning takes about a half an hour. The churn is done by hand and the churn-dash is always moved upwards and down-wards.
There is a glass on the side to see when the butter is made. Water is poured in during the process to rinse the butter. The butter is taken out in a large dish and washed. Then it is made into the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
