  1. David Barry was the only poet who lived in this district. He was born in the glen House lower Woodstock in the year seventeen fifty one and I am a descendant of his as he was my mother's great grandfather. He was buried in Carrigtwohill grave yard. I do not know where he got the gift of poetry but he withered a tree in Greenville. His ancestors were not poets but the power of poetry came suddenly. He was an Irish poet and scholar. He wrote in English and Irish. His occupation was that of a farmer. He made his songs on Sunday after Mass. He could read and write. The people said he was
