  1. During the time of Penal Laws the Catholics were not allowed to teach and schools had to be kept in secret. There was a lot of them around Carrigtwohill. One of them was in Eddie Cotter's field and his grandfather Thomas Cotter used to teach in his own house at night before Mr Parker came. He had a lot of Irish books. Dave Barry the blacksmith had a lot of them and Father Pat Barry has some of them from him. Mr Hegarty in Ballard has one or two Irish songs composed by Thomas Cotter. The barn where the school house was near the old coach road from Cork to Tallow. Mr Parker must have been a good teacher for some of the old
