    but he got so tired he had to sit down again. He heard a merry laugh behind him and looking back beheld a fairy who was holding an axe in his hand. The servant asked him what did he want for the axe and he replied. "If you will ask your master when he is saying mass tomorrow will the good people go to heaven I will give it to you." The servant agreed and in less than no time he felled the tree. The following morning when St. Patrick was saying mass his servant asked him in the middle of mass "will the 'good people' go to heaven" and Patrick said they would not. Later when mass was over, Patrick asked his servant what was his meaning for asking the question during mass. "The fairies told me to ask you and they gave me in payment a fine sharp axe and I must go back now to tell them your answer." Patrick said "when they will hear my answer they will kill you, but take a spade and a shovel with you
