- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Many stories are told among the old people about the Danes. They associate the Danes with the Raths and Lisses and they always speak of them as being a marvellously clever race of people. Most old people will tell about the famous drink that only the Danes could make. It was called "Beóir" and it was made from the heath or heather.While they were in Ireland they managed to keep this secret from the Irish and when Brian Boru finally overthrew them there were only two Danes left in Ireland who possessed the secret. These were a man and his son. The Irish were always trying to come by the secret but somehow, they had never succeeded. The Danes were clever enough to keep it from them. Now they felt certain that they had it at last and they took the two men and tried to force the secret from them. They were very loyal to this secret and did not budge. But after a while it was noticed that the son was weakening and he would undoubtedly give it away. But the father noticed his son also and the next time he was asked to give up the secret he told them that he would on one condition - that they would kill his son. They did as he said "You can kill me now"
