- An Englishman was visiting in Bantry long ago, and he bet with a Bantry man that he could not get a man in the town who would eat sixteen chickens in one meal.
The Bantry man bet that he could and he went in search of a man who was famous for an extraordinary appetite, and he told the story to him.
"I have just eaten a pot of meal, but even so, I will try this so as to beat the Englishman", said the man with the big appetite.
They both went to the lodging house and the English man was there before them.
"Where are those chickens?" said the Bantry man. "I have a man here who will eat them". The chickens were put on the table to him and he began eating them. When he had eaten four he spoke to his friend (in Irish of course) and said he could not eat any more. "What is that, he is saying?" said the Englishman. "He says that he would eat as many more more if he had them" said the Bantry man. "On my soul(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
