    the crib was complete. One thin rod was placed across the crib inside, and a fork-shaped stick was stuck in the ground to support it. In this way the crib was lifted off the ground. Crumbs of bread or grains of oats were shaken inside in order to decoy the birds. When the bird went inside it hopped on the rod which was being supported and the crib falling down trapped the bird.
    I heard of these home-made toys from my father Mr. Michael O'Brien.
