  1. Weaving.
    Weaving was a very common industry in this district long ago. A weaver named Ned Hoban lived in Corristoona and he used to spin wool, and weave the thread into flannel. He also used to weave frieze. His brother who lived in the next house was also a weaver. Another weaver lived in the neighbouring village of Clooneygrasson. To make the material thicker it was brought to a mill. In every district there was a mill, and in Cloonadra about one mile from this school was the mill for this district. There was also a mill in Rockfield near Roscommon town.
    Basket-making.
    A basket - maker who used to make all classes of rod - baskets such as cleeves and scibs, lived in Laragh. Another basket-maker lived in Corristoona. Some baskets were make of sally - rods. First of all a sod was dug. Then the rods were placed in the sod and formed into a round shape. The smaller rods were woven in and out until it was about seven inches high. To
