- In this part of the country there are many signs which are supposed to give information as to the weather that will come. The following are some of the signs which forecast wet weather.
If the sun has a pale watery colour when setting in the evening rain is sure to follow.
When there is a halo around the moon it is a sure sign of rain
When the wind is from a southerly direction rain will follow as the old saying says:-
When the wind is from the south
the rain is in its mouth.
It is a sign of rain if the wind compels the dust on the road to fly around.
When the crows fly very low near the ground it is a token of bad wet weather. If the seagulls fly in over the land rain is forecasted. The plover comes in from the mountains before snow comes.
Rainbows also foretel of the kind of weather which follows. If a rainbow is seen in the morning rain is indicated. If a piece of a rainbow is seen near a whole one it is called a Madra Gaoithe and it portends storm(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
