Ar an leathanach seo
- There is a churn in our house for about twenty years. It is about four feet in height and it was made by cooper Higgins in Ratra. The man that made it is dead this long time. Every Friday the cooper went to the market and sold the churns he made during the week.
When a person is churning it is an old custom that if anyone comes in he must touch the dash While the churning is going on nobody could bring a coal out to light a fire.
Before the churning is started the people put a coal under the churn and sometimes they make the sign of the cross before starting.
(the old) There are two parts in all the old churns the upper part of which is called the peck. On this there are two hoops and on the lower (hoops) part of the churn there are three hoops.
The cooper always puts on the hoops before he joins the two parts(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
