   buyer strike hands. When a man is after selling an animal he gives some money to the buyer, which is called "luck". When cattle are bought there are two lines cut on their backs with a scissors. Then they are brought to the railway station, and put in the waggon. The halter is always given away with cattle sold, because they must be tied in the waggon. It the halter is broken on the fair, the seller buys a new reins, which he presents to the buyer.

2. The Local Fairs

   The local fairs are held in New Ross, Graignamanagh, Borris and Kilkenny. Most of the people of the Rower go to the fair of New Ross. May and October fairs are the best held in New Ross for the year.
   Buyers came from all parts of the county to the fair. There is always a good stock of animals there. There are always a lot of pigs, cows, bullocks, heifers, and horses on the fair.
   The fair is held in a special part of the town. It is a long, wide street, with a rank of cottages on one side and a rank of shops on the other side. There are
