  1. Local Place Names
The names of John Browne's fields are as follows - The Long Meadow, The Coarse Meadow, The Páircín, The Sand Pit, The Rushy Field and the Gate Field. The Long Meadow is so called because it is the longest field in the farm. The Coarse Meadow gets its name from the coarse grass which grows in it. The Páircín is so called because it is very small. The Sand Pit gets its name from the sand got in the middle of it. The Rushy Field is so called because rushes grow in it. The Gate Field gets its name because it is the only field with a gate by the bohreen.
