  1. Severe Weather
    1. In January 1889 there was a great snowstorm. The snow fell so heavily that in some hollows along the road it was fifteen feet in depth. In some of these hollows the snow didn't melt until mid - June.
    It was such a blizzard that it went in between the slates in the houses where the rain did not go. Many lives were lost in the Kerry and Wicklow Hills, searching for sheep. Flocks of sheep were lost also. Animals and people were dying from January until June.

  2. During the winter of 1916 there were great floods which caused much damage to roads and bridges. The bridge near Farranfore Post Office was knocked down by one of these floods. It was rebuilt the following year. Austin Stack was the first man to cross over the bridge after it being rebuilt. He was returning home after a term of imprisonment. the bridge was afterwards called Stack's Bridge.
