  1. You gentle muses full nine in number
Assist my genius while I expound
The worthy praises of an ancient mansion
That situated on a rising ground
Where grasses spontaneous and corn various
    Grow in due season abundantly
And the verdant plains o'er spread with daisies
Beneath the shades of a spreading tree
This is the moat which tradition quotes
Was built by Danes in days of yore
When bold Turgesius that proud Norwegian
Who long pervaded fair Erin's shore
The flowing meadows of the beauteous landscape
outwits the artist in power to draw.
    Its appelation throughout the nation
And to tell you plain 'tis the moat of Ragh
I roamed from Youghal to Newtown Harbour
To Shelton Abbey of the Avoca side
    From darling Courttown to Ballyarthur
To Connel Talbot of the Malahide
I roamed from Mallow to Lord Annel's of Killanagh
And in all my ranging throughout the nation
I found none to equal the Moat of Ragh
