- About thirty years ago, all the young men in Lisdowney district were stepdancers. The most noted of them were Richard Hoyne, Richard Grace and James Cody. They were well able to dance the Hornpipe, Reel and Double. They learned these dances from a man named Ivory. There was a woman living in Ballyphilip in the parish of Lisdowney Co Kilkenny and her name was Bridget Maher. Every Saturday she walked to Kilkenny with a firkin of butter on her head.
