    sea. Daire, or oak, forms part of the name because according to history, the bridge or pass over the river, in olden times was made by intertwining the boughs and branches of the oak trees that grew on its banks.
    Before the rise of the town the spot on which it stood was called Easdara without the prefix Bal, or town. it was the name it bore when St Colmcille and other saints visited the place.
    Ballisodare has not always occupied the site on which it stands at present - partly on the east and partly on the west side of the river. Until a comparatively recent period it was entirely confined to the left bank of the river. Then the town was connected by a stone and lime bridge erected by Cathal O'Connor.
    Ballisodare is a nice little village and is very attractive because of the beautiful
