- Corkhill is the name of my home district it is about a mile and a half east of this place. There are ten families in it and thirty two people. Battle is the commonest name in that district.There are six slated houses in it and all the rest of them are thatched and they put galvanized iron on the out-houses.The townland is also called Corkabeg which means small bog.There is only one woman over seventy years in it. Mrs Berry, Corkabeg, Skreen, Co Sligo. She cannot speak Irish but she can speak English and tell stories in English.There were more houses there long ago but the people knocked them down and took away the stones. There are three old ruins in it.A lot of people left it and went to America and England to earn their living. There is no songs or stories about any of them.The land is good there are a few patches of boggy land. The bogs are full of streams and deep holes but there is no song or story about any of them.
