  1. (continued from previous page)
In the long vanished years, of a dead mother's love,
How oft of fresh flowerets a garland I wove,
By that silvery streamlet or stretched in the grove,
Have whispered my rose a love tale.
    III
There's a high towering hill with its green and its gold
Grass mantled furze belted where champions of old.
Were laid down to rest and their death bell was tolled
Where foemen in fight; were o'er thrown
In the calm summer o'er the mountains was sought by the sun.
We danced o'er the green hill in the days that are gone
The dancers are gone too, ochone.
