“Long, long ago when witchery and magic were common in Ireland a man, wife and their family were living in their house.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)agree and on next day the man started with the cat in a bag on his back. When he came to the crossroads his neighbour was there before him with his hounds. He shouted "what have you in that bag?"The other heard a voice from the bag saying "If you let the cat out of the bag I'l murder you." The other came and shook out the cat. Away with the cat and the hounds after her..They caught her and bit her on the back once, but did not kill her. They chased the cat as far as an old barn and she escaped in through the window but the hounds couldn't follow her. When they opened the door the men saw an old, old hag sitting in the barn. "Did a cat come in here? they asked of her. "No, there's no cat here," she said. The dogs then started barking outside. "Oh! don't let in the dogs" she said. Just then one of the men called in the dogs. The hag then turned into a cat again and away out the chimney. When the cat came down off the barn the hounds ran after her and killed her.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
