  1. A Song (continued)

Goodbye, goodbye, my dear old friends

    (continued from previous page)
To the hills of the free
    We may some day return,
    And strike every tyrant
    with sorrow and woe.
    Leena's fair valleys ne'er again
    mourn for those that once
    rambled through the
    Co Mayo.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS SONG WAS COMPOSED BY BRIAN GILDEA WHO WAS BORN IN DERVIN, THE PARISH OF LAHARDANE. HIS FATHER HAD A HOUSE THERE, AND OWNED ALL THE LAND THAT IS DIVIDED NOW AMONG THE PEOPLE OF DERVIN. THE GILDEAS WERE RICH ONE TIME BUT THE TIMES GOT BAD AND THEY ALL HAD TO EMIGRATE TO AMERICA.
