  1. Knox was the name of the landlord in this district long ago. He resided in Errew which is situated on the shores of Lough Conn where he built a mansion about the year 1870, and where he lived until his death. This house has 52 windows and is owned at present by Miss Canavan, Crossmolina, who runs it as an hotel and it is much admired by English and Scotch visitors.
Knox's ancestors who were landlords also were very prosperous. They resided in Backs, Ballina and along with owning all the land around Backs they owned the lands of Shranalaghta, Errew and Killeen in the parish of Crossmolina
