  1. In Crossmolina there are twelve fairs every year and six in Lahardane. There are two fairgreens in Crossmolina, one is called the new fair and is situated above the Catholic church and the other, the old fair, is near the Protestant church. Nine of the fairs are held in the new fairgreen and three in the old one. A day before the cattle and sheep fair there is a fair for pigs.
    Rakestreet, which is situated about two and a half miles south-west of Crossmolina, was noted some years ago for its flourishing fairs until the new fairs were established in Crossmolina by John Nolan and since then no fairs were held in Rakestreet. There were great fairs for cattle, horses, and sheep. There used to be thirteen fairs in
