    Some six and twenty weary years
    in exile now I’ve been
    Far from my early comrades
    and native valleys green.
    Often sad and lonely it is down
    my cheeks do flow
    Salt tears for friends I never may see
    far far from sweet Mayo.
    The dear old school where father taught
    I’m sure I see it still
    It stands above Tom Queenan’s house
    upon verdant hill
    It was there I learned my A.B.C.
    some thirty years ago
    And God be with the same old school
    and God be withy Mayo.
