  1. A Song (continued)

It is years ago, dear Erin

    (continued from previous page)
Many is the time in dreams I see
some scenes I know right well
Among the west that wild old fort
    that stands down by Rathkell
For often I went down there
to pick the blackberry and sloe
With playmates dear, who like myself
    are far from sweet Mayo.
    Dear village of Doonbreedia
sweet spot that gave me birth.
I hold thee more than any spot
    or any land on earth
And when I die, may I be laid
    where fairest blossoms blow
Not far from you my dear old friends
    far west in dear Mayo.
