    The friends had reached a height on the road from which the parti-coloured farming country, that is County Wexford, could be seen, outspread to the calm curves of the Blackstair mountains. It was a scene of peace and silent industry. Every homestead in that fair expanse, you could say, was the abode of frugality and of simple joy.
