  1. As a general rule there are more marriages during Shrove than any other time of the year. On Shrove Tuesday always a number of marriages take place because Lent commences on the following day. The unlucky days in the week to marry are Friday and Saturday The unlucky month of the year is May: There, is an old saying, "What is bound in May is loosed in December". Match-made marriages are not as common now as in the other days, still "match-making" is still carried on.
    One change in the match-making however is that now the dowry concists entirely of
