  1. The year of the famine when the potatoe crops failed, it is said that the people used to dig the potatoe gardens over to know would they find a few potatoes. They also used to eat Turnips and Nettles, and I often heard my grandfather say that they would be glad if they had Turnips for their supper Christmas night. The people were dying so quick that they had no coffins enough for them. The famine.
