  1. Long ago the fairs were not as plentiful as nowadays. The men and women used to go on horse back to fairs in those days to help to sell the cattle. In those days some of the people were very poor and could not afford to wear shoes. They used to carry them to the fairs under their arms until they would reach the fair. They would put them on until they were ready to leave for home. They used to take them off again.
